South Seattle College does NOT require TOEFL or IELTS scores for admission. Following the completion of the Intensive English Program (IEP), students can begin college level coursework that will prepare them to meet their academic goals.

For direct placement to college level courses, students may submit the following test scores:

Placement Type ENGL 099 + ENGL & 101 ENGL & 101

Combined Score of 64-71: Minimum of 17 on writing

Combined Score of 72-73; Minimum of 18 on writing


Score of 6.0; Minimum of 5.0 on writing

Score of 6.0; Minimum of 5.5 on writing

SAT Score of 510 in Reading and Writing  
ACT Score of 19 in English and Writing  

The official TOEFL or IELTS scores must be submitted directly to the Center for International Education office together with the International Student Application form.

Applicants can also demonstrate their English proficiency by taking the placement test for placement into college level programs. Previous college level coursework will not satisfy placement requirements. Please visit Student Assessment Services site to learn more about preparing for the placement test.

Attending New Student Orientation is mandatory for all international students. Students receive important information about policies regarding their F-1 student visa. Students also learn about services offered at South Seattle College and meet the Center for International Education staff. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet students from other countries and develop friendships that will last a lifetime. Please plan your travel accordingly so that you can attend the orientation.
