Aeronautical Technology Programs

Join the Soaring Aviation Industry!

King County has the most aerospace activity in the entire country, with 45,000 employees and 400 aerospace companies. Many in the workforce are retiring, and these companies need new skilled workers to fill those positions. Boeing alone needs 5,000 new workers a year!*

At South Seattle College, we have a long history of training the technicians that power the aviation and aerospace industries. Whether it be repair, advanced manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly, South’s Aeronautical Technology programs will prepare you with the skills needed to succeed in one of Washington’s strongest industries.

Program Descriptions

  • Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT)

South’s highly regarded and largest aviation program. Also called Airframe & Powerplant, or simply A&P, this FAA-certified program trains future mechanics for work on both the Powerplant (engine) & the Airframe (everything else!) of aircraft. This program emphasizes commercial aviation and has several innovative internships and work-study programs available. Certification for FAA testing. Two- and four-year degree options are available.

  • Airframe & Powerplant Seminar Certificate for Transitioning Service Members and Veterans

For those with prior experience as aircraft mechanics and a FAA-approved 8610-2 form, this 6-8 week program provides review, gap training and industry preparation for FAA testing and employment.
